The NSW Selective High School Placement Test is a standardised test that identifies gifted and high-potential students for admission to selective high schools in New South Wales
The test has four main sections: Reading: 30 questions in 40 minutes, assessing comprehension and interpretation skills. Mathematical Reasoning: 35 questions in 40 minutes, assessing numerical and spatial understanding. Thinking skills: 40 questions in 40 minutes, assessing logical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities. Writing: 2 pages in 30 minutes, assessing language conventions and articulation abilities.
From 2025, the test will be computer-based.
Applications are open from November to February. The test is held in May and the selective school offers are released to parents in Term 3.

Depending on the time of the year, there is a membership option for year 5 students and a membership option for year 6 students. A year 5 membership will be valid until their Selective Test is over in the following year. This option is more expensive since it is valid for over a year. A year 6 membership will be valid until their Selective Test is over in the current year. This option is cheaper since it is valid for less than a year.
The Trainee membership is for year 6 students and the Learner membership is for year 5 students. Both memberships grant the same access to content and resources. The only difference between the memberships is that the Trainee membership expires when the current year's Selective Test is over, and the Learner membership only expires when the next year's Selective Test is over.
